Animation Magazine Interview on the production of “Disenchanted”

Animation Magazine Interview on the production of “Disenchanted”

Animation Magazine interviewed Simon Pope and I on the production of Disenchanted. The article is titled How Tonic DNA Sprinkled 2D Animation Magic into Disney’s ‘Disenchanted’

As in the original, Disenchanted crosses the line from live action to animation, requiring the services of an animation studio — and animators — to bring key parts of the movie to life. With a script in hand and director Shankman on board, Disney turned to Montreal-based Tonic DNA, where the project was overseen by creative director Todd Shaffer and animation supervisor Simon Pope.

“They came to us with already some preconceived ideas of how they wanted to approach it,” says Shaffer. “We wanted that classic Disney style, but we also wanted to honor what was done with Enchanted, which was just really good for the time … we were just basically trying to follow their lead.”

FIRST LOOK: Looney Tunes Feature The Day the Earth Blew Up

FIRST LOOK: Looney Tunes Feature The Day the Earth Blew Up

From THE WRAP:

This week, Warner Bros. Animation will have a presence at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. And one of the projects that they’ll be highlighting is “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie,” one of several animated features and TV series that HBO Max scrapped earlier this summer. The feature is still in production and looking for a new streaming home, and we’ve got the exclusive clip that you can watch above.

The clip not only captures the spirit of classic Warner Bros. characters like Porky and Daffy, but also because reveals that the film is seemingly traditionally animated, which harkens back to the company’s rich history of hand-drawn animation. What makes it so striking, too, is that the comedy in the clip is contemporary. Yes, it’s indebted to the past, but it’s not mired. It’s unafraid to be modern.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie now on HBO Max and Hulu

The Bob’s Burgers Movie now on HBO Max and Hulu

The Bob’s Burger Movie is an animated film the entire family can enjoy. At Tonic DNA we animated many of the musical sequences, and it was great fun.

Below is part of an article about the film from Collider:

Fire up the grill and get your best burger puns ready, The Bob’s Burgers Movie is headed for Hulu and HBO Max in the U.S. on July 12. We’re sensing a lot of themed parties as the burger flipping funny family’s big screen adventure takes over your home movie theater. Since heating up cinemas everywhere since the end of May, the Belcher’s first feature length story has been raking in praise from the critics, including Collider’s very own film aficionado, Ross Bonaime, whose review you can check out here.

Just like in the episodes of the quirky and hilarious TV show, The Bob’s Burgers Movie centers around the terrible luck of the Belcher family and the lengths they go to in order to smooth things over and get back to business. This time, a ruptured water main has caused a gargantuan sinkhole to block customers from attaining their Burger of the Day. Panicked that this will surely sink their uptick in summer customers, Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) and Linda (John Roberts) try out all the ideas they can think of to get customers in the doors and butts in the booths.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is out today

Space Jam is released today. My team was occupied on this production for a good part of last year. It was a joy to work with great people and produce a fun project. My hat’s off to Spike Brandt for his creative direction.

One of my colleagues is featured in an article at CTV for her work on Space Jam 2.
